COLOR
Color is another of the elements of design. Much like different styles and types of line can effect the mood of a piece of art work, color also has this ability.
In general there are three types of color:
RED + YELLOW = ORANGE
YELLOW + BLUE = GREEN
Example:
Sun (high intensity) = bright yellow
Mustard (low intensity) = dull yellow
In general there are three types of color:
- PRIMARY COLORS: These colors are RED, BLUE and YELLOW. They are called primary colors because they are used to create all other colors.
- SECONDARY COLORS: These colors are created by mixing two of the primary colors together.
RED + YELLOW = ORANGE
YELLOW + BLUE = GREEN
- TERTIARY COLORS: These colors are created by taking one primary color and mixing it with one secondary color. The tertiary colors on the 12 point color wheel are: red-orange, yellow-orange, yellow-green, blue-green, blue-violet, and red-violet.
- HUE: Is another name for color. Hue is identified by a common name such as green, blue, yellow-orange etc.
- SHADE: A color shade is created by adding or mixing black to the color.
- TINT: A color tint is created by adding or mixing white to the color.
- TONE: A color tone is created by adding or mixing grey to a color.
- INTENSITY: This term describes the brightness or purity of a color. A vivid or bright color is said to have a high intensity, while a dull color has a low intensity.
Example:
Sun (high intensity) = bright yellow
Mustard (low intensity) = dull yellow
- VALUE: This describes the lightness or darkness of a color. Darker colors are lower in value, while lighter colors are higher in value
